ANDES
The Andes was a British Bark under the command of Captain Griffith.
She sank in deep bay on June 5, 1905. Apparently, the vessel caught
fire
and blew up while en route from Trinidad to Valparaiso. At the time
of
her demise, she was carrying a full cargo of asphalt in barrels. The
vessel
and cargo were a total loss, but her crew was saved
The wreck remains upright in 30 feet of water. Divers can descend
through
her open decks or swim around her exterior. Snorkelers as well as
divers
often visit the Andes. Some marine life is present here but is not
as
abundant as it is at some of the other off shore sites.
ST. JOHN WRECK
The S/. John Wreck is also referred to as Shipstern She was a 90
foot long
tug boat that sank in St. James harbor in the 1960's. The wreck is
now
resting in about 35 feet of water. The S/. John Wreck is great for
wide
angle photography. Due to the amount of small crustaceans and
colorful
coral polyps, this site is also an impressive night dive.
About sixty feet behind the St. John Wreck is a barge wreck. It is
not known
if both vessels were sunk together or if they each went down during
