ANDDIE ANDERSON
The Anddie M Anderson was a four masted schooner built in Bath Maine
in 1890. She was 183 feet long had a 38 foot beam, displaced 934
tons and was constructed of wood.
On February 14, 1899the Anddie Anderson was en-route from New York
to Providence, RI with a cargo of coal. As she sailed around Montauk
she ran into the remains of an unidentified sunken wreck. The damage
was severe. Captain Tole ordered his crew to start the pumps and
they headed for Narragansett Bay. Needless to say they did not make
it. The Anderson slipped beneath the waves leaving her crew behind
in life boats.
Today the scattered low lying remains of the Anderson can be found
in 50 feet of water on a silty bottom.
