CHARLES S HAIGHT
The steel hulled Liberty ship Charles Haight was 422.8 feet long,
had a 57 foot beam and displaced 7198 gross tons. She was built in
1944 in Brunswick, Georgia.
On April 2, 1946 the Charles Haight was caught in a powerful storm.
The Haight ran aground off Rockport MA. Although several efforts
were made to pull the big ship off the rocks they all failed. Seven
days after she went aground and after her hull split open she was
declared a total loss.
Today the Haight can be found scattered in 15 to 45 feet of water.
According to diver Bill Carter sections of her bow are intact.
