USS BLENNY
The diesel powered US submarine
Blenny (SS-324) was built in 1944. She was 311 feet long had a
27foot beam and displaced 2415 tons. The Blenny was a Balao class
submarine. She was commissioned in July of 1944 and served in the
Pacific. In 1989 many years after the Blenny had become obsolete she
was taken out of moth balls and donated to the Maryland artificial
reef program. The Blenny was sunk on June 7,1989 and now sits on her
side in 70 feet of water.
Remember
penetration
into any shipwreck should only be done by those with proper
training, experience and
wreck diving equipment.
Scuba equipment like powerful
dive lights,
navigation reels,
dive knives
as well as redundant air supply like a
pony bottle
or
doubles are standard gear for wreck
divers.
