JOSEPH E. BROWN
Pensacola
 The Liberty ship Joseph E. Brown was built in 1943 by the
Southeastern Shipbuilding Corporation in Savannah, Georgia. Her keel
was laid on June 9, 1943, she was launched on August 19, 1943, and
she was delivered to the Cosmopolitan Steamship Company on August 31
of the same year. Her engine was built by Filer & Stowell Company of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was laid up in the Reserve fleet in 1946
but was withdrawn in 1976.
The 500 foot long Joseph E. Brown was scuttled as an artificial reef
on September 29, 1977. Today this massive wreck sits in 95 feet of
water.
