OCEAN VENUS Titusville
The freighter Ocean Venus was built by California Ship Builders
Corporation in March of 1942. She was 425.6 feet long, had a 57 foot
beam and was powered by a single triple expansion engine. On May 3,
1942, the Ocean Venus was on her maiden voyage. She was carrying a
cargo of 4000 tons of lumber, 4000 tons of lead, 80 tons of acetone
and 1000 tons of canned herring when a torpedo from the U-564 sent
her to the bottom. The Ocean Venus now sits in 70 feet of water and
is also known as the Lead Wreck
