LADY FREE Miami

The Lady Free is the remains of an 80 foot wooden square masted schooner. According to Captain Joel Auerbach, she was sunk around 1896 and is now scattered in 60 feet of water. The Lady Free lies north of the Belcher Barge and rises only five feet off the bottom. This wreck has not held up to the ocean's currents, and all that is recognizable today is an engine block. Don Scholen reports that in 1990 a Chris Craft was scuttled almost directly on top of the Lady Free. This wreck is also breaking down rapidly.
