COPENHAGEN Ft.
Lauderdale
The British cargo ship Copenhagen was built by Priestman & Co. of
Sunderland in 1898. She was 325 feet long, had a 47 foot beam,
displaced 3,297 gross tons and was powered by a single 312 nhp
triple expansion engine. The Copenhagen was owned by Glasgow Ship
Owners Co. and was wrecked on May 27, 1900, while en route from
Philadelphia to Havana with a cargo of coal.
The Copenhagen wreck is also known as the Cumberland Barge and rises
to within inches of the ocean's surface.
