C-ONE Miami

The 120 foot long ex-Navy fleet tugboat C-One was originally named Christina and was built in the early 1940's. The C-One had been out of service and was in need of costly repairs when she was purchased by the Department of Environmental Resources for $30,000. After the removal of her engines, portholes and hatches, the tug was scheduled to be sunk. The original date of October 14, 1990, was postponed due to tropical storm Klaus. On October 27, the tug was towed offshore, but the waves soon caused havoc as the tug boat Captain Donald that was towing the C-One floundered and sunk. The Captain Donald was later raised. Finally the C-One was towed to its designated location and sunk at 11:30 am, on November 8, 1990, to begin her new life as an artificial reef. Divers report that she sits in 65 feet of water off Haulover Inlet and rests with a slight starboard tilt.
