BILL BOYD REEF Broward
County
This 211 foot German freighter was built in Hamburg in 1964. She was
originally named Heino, then renamed Maude Wonsild, Mauds Isa, Hem
Berto, Marilyn and finally Nata. The vessel was renamed once more
before her sinking on July 18, 1986, after a pioneer in sport
fishing, Bill Boyd.
The wreck now sits in 265 feet of water and rises 70 feet off the
bottom. Due to her depth, this wreck is not dove too often and is
used mostly for fishing. In May of 1988, a world record mutton
snapper was caught on the Bill Boyd Reef.
