TRES PUENTES Upper
Matecumbe Key
The Tres Puentes is another of the 22 ships that sailed from Havana
and met her doom by a hurricane on July 15, 1733. This nao nicknamed
The Three Decker was stranded in 20 feet of water about three miles
south-southeast of Snake Creek Bridge.
Most of the valuable cargo of this ship was recovered by Spanish
salvage crews, but later retrieved under a grassy area by
experienced wreck hunters were coins, gold medallions, pewter ware
and several sand cast silver ingots weighing eleven to 17 pounds.
