IRON MASTED SCHOONER Islamorada

The remains of a 19th century schooner rest two miles south of Windley Key in 40 feet of water. Although most of the ship's fittings have been recovered by divers, steering machinery, an anchor chain and mast hoops still surround the ship's large iron masts which over time have broken into three pieces. This wreck is also known as the Steel Mast Wreck, and divers have recovered everything from coins, bullets, dead eyes, pistols and brass sextants by searching her remains with a metal detector.
