MARK ANTONIO
By Capt. Dan Berg
The Spanish double ended Mediterranean privateer, Mark Antonio,
was on a voyage from St. Eustatius to Cape Henlopen, when she ran
into Bermuda's reefs on July 18, 1777. According to the book
SHIPWRECKS IN THE AMERICAS by Robert F. Marx, she was traveling in
ballast under the command of Captain Jean Bautist Hugonne. Teddy
Tucker discovered this wreck in the early 1960's. A few artifacts
were found on her including musket shot and cannon balls. She now
sits on a reef in 20 feet of water .
